Familiar Faces

So the guy at Smoothie King this morning asked me if I was in movies. I was a little confused but said "No" and "Thank You." He may have just been hoping for a tip, but he said I "could be a double for Heath Ledger's wife." Michelle Williams. Umm ok, we're both blonde, I guess.

I think more accurate was this post I had a few months ago.

Speaking of faces, I found this via MM's blog. It's called Face the Future and was created by the University of St. Andrews. I doubt it's accuracy, and it's kind of creepy, but it's fun to see what you might possibly look like as a another age or race.

"young adult"

"Afro-Caribbean"

"East Asian"

"Older Woman"

"Baby"

"Anime"

Yep, That last one is especially creepy.

Funtastic!

Can I reiterate how excited I am to be going into such an innovative industry? When people ask me what I do I'm gonna say "I'm in the idea business."

Like Bugosky says "Figure out what you like to do best in the world of marketing and forget the rest. Focus your energy in those areas and develop your own philosophies. We’re all making it up as we go along. Nobody knows anymore or any better than you do so tap into that personal passion. And if it’s not fun, figure out why and change it."

I've had so much fun at the Lincoln Road office the past two days and I can't wait for us to move there for good next week.

So moving on to some cool stuff I've seen lately that is competing to go to Cannes. First is a Future Lions idea submitted by my friends Ronney and Eric. Sick idea for fusing video and photo in several digital-scapes.

Flip Fuse from Eric Roller on Vimeo.

I also checked out the banner blog today and thought it was cool that they are endorsing some of the student-made videos for the 48 hour brief I mentioned a few posts ago.

This one is so simple, yet so innovative. I'm surprised I didn't think of it. Even if I had, I wouldn't know how to make it interactive like this:

The only thing that bothers me about it is that they have a pause button flashing instead of a stop button. And it should link to the online petition, not the contest itself. But the kids that came up with this one get mad props nonetheless.

Also, thanks to MM, I found out about the CP+B Hero Factory. So of course I had to make one. Kinda resembles my superhero self at their Christmas party last year, lol.

Day and Night

Ok I had to post this! Love the song [Day and Night by Kid Cudi] and the music video!

Totally looks like something my super cool friend Jessy would concept/art direct! (I wish our BCY videos were this cool!)

Personal Space

Here's some stuff that will make you feel like an insignificant speck in an infinite universe...

Found this via one of Anne's twitter posts. Interactive Art Direction specialists at Hyper Island in collaboration with the Swedish Space Corporation is sending our messages to space! Hurry, tho. There's only 8 more days til the launch!

I was a little surprised to see one of the first messages from a familiar name. :)

Yea, my message is a little cheese-tastic. But it's true.

Gotta love those Swedes! It almost makes me want to drive up to Disney World in Orlando just to ride Space Mountain.

Next, I found this little social experiment called twistori. It's inspired by We Feel Fine, which I've posted about before, but it anonymously aggregates peoples' tweets in real time based on a couple of keywords.

It was created by Amy Hoy and Thomas Fuchs of Slash7, and you can even download it as a screensaver (for macs, anyways).

Street Art, Literally

Stumbled upon these little gems which are part of the 6EMEIA project by Anderson Augusto and Leonardo Delafuente in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Basically their goal was to liven up the drab & dirty city streets and prove that art doesn't always have to be in a gallery.
Loves it!

A few of them even inspired a print campaign for Asics!

Five

I re-realized that Five gum is a pretty cool brand. I'm actually chewing a piece of Rain right now after Pam called me out on having falafel breath.

I think they did a great job of launching the brand a few years ago in a super-saturated & commoditized market. The packing alone stands out, very innovative and well-designed. Even down to the texture detail on the front.

Then the commercials are out of control! I want to be in all of them for real. Why is it called five? Well the brilliant tagline is "Stimulate Your Senses." Obviously the first is taste, and the flavor lasts suprisingly long. Sight is next because the packaging is so pretty. Touch, because of the texture and you interact with the packaging. Smell because it makes your breath smell better (thanks, Pam!) and whatever gum I have in it determines what my purse smells like. And sound? Umm, I guess I can hear myself chew and the wrapper makes a crinkly sound when you crunch it up?

I would bet the creatives on this account at AMV BBDO London/Energy BBDO Chicago are fans of The Matrix. (This agency was second on my Internship QA list after DDB, which pulled out. Now I wish even more that I put it as my first choice instead).

shut up and let me go

sorry i've been on hiatus from my blog (not to mention sleep) for the past couple days b/c it's the last week of school. here's a cool video.

i can't embed it, but you can view it here
"shut up and let me go" by the ting tings
somewhat reminiscent of the white stripes...but this girl can actually sing. lol

this song was first featured in an apple ipod commercial by tbwa this past april:

the ting tings are a couple of brits named katie white and jules de martino and this song is the third release from their debut album, 'we started nothing,' and is classified as dance-pop.

Accoring to wikipedia,

The music video for "Shut Up and Let Me Go" was directed by Alex and Liane for Factory Films. Filmed in one day, the video features the Ting Tings performing kung fu and uses a variety of hand gestures to transition from scene to scene. The video begins with Katie White and Jules De Martino arm wrestling in a black, white, and pink room. They are then shown in a studio fighting on a grassy set. Various scenes of White and De Martino in front of colourful backgrounds are intercut throughout the video.

Directors Alex and Liane described the video as "a bit over-ambitious" because of its fight scenes which "were just so time consuming to get right". The various hand gestures were inspired by the Neoist art movement.

The video debuted on MTV in the United States on June 13, 2008. It was nominated for 2008 MTV Video Music Awards for Video of the Year and won for Best UK Video.
