don't vote

i stumbled upon this psa produced by leonardo dicaprio:

again i am a little annoyed with the concept that we should do something just because celebrities tell us to, but it's for a good cause. also, it's pretty transparent: "we know america's youth are rebellious/apathetic so we are going to tell them not to vote so that they will do it anyways." ooh reverse psychology. how original. (sarah silverman and jonah hill are hilarious!)

the overall concept is fantastic though - when you go to maps.google.com/vote, you can enter your home address and google maps will promptly display a plethora of voter registration information.

this 'campaign' is linked to declareyourself.com, who
"is a national nonpartisan, nonprofit campaign to empower and encourage every eligible 18-year-old in America to register and vote in the presidential primaries and 2008 presidential election. Using the power of strategic media partnerships, celebrity spokespeople, the sports arena, and most importantly, mobile and Internet technology, Declare Yourself's campaign blankets the landscape of popular culture, as well as universities and high schools, with a simple, clear message: REGISTER and VOTE!"

whoa, creepiness. i think the tears are a little over the top.

an interesting article from adweek says this campaign is from grey.

i am still registered in florida. i guess i need to get that absentee ballot taken care of (even though i don't really want to vote for either of them. ugh.)
